Islamophobia

A report published by a UK university has found that since the 9/11 attacks on the US in 2001, arson, criminal damage, violence and intimidation against Muslims in Britain has increased dramatically. In particular, the authors found that since Muslim communities in small towns are more polarised than in cities, they are more vulnerable to attack and this accounts for higher Islamophobia-related incidents. The study, Islamophobia and Anti-Muslim Hate Crime: UK Case Studies, was published by the University of Exeter and is part of a ten- year academic research project undertaken by its European Muslim Research Centre. Shamim Chowdhury reports from Bishop’s Stortford, England.

Who Established Women’s rights?

Islamic laws took a great deal of care for woman and her rights in a way that included all aspects of her life, furthermore Islam teachings have honored the woman and asked that she is taken care of whether she was a mother, wife, daughter, sister or a relative in general. If we look back in history, we would easily notice that woman have never had any acceptable rights in any of the previous legislation, […]

All Terrorists are Muslims…Except the 94% that Aren’t

CNN recently published an article entitled Study: Threat of Muslim-American terrorism in U.S. exaggerated; according to a study released by Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, “the terrorist threat posed by radicalized Muslim-Americans has been exaggerated.” Yet, Americans continue to live in mortal fear of radical Islam, a fear propagated and inflamed by right wing Islamophobes. If one follows the cable news networks, it seems as if all terrorists are […]

What would you do?

The Sept. 11 attacks, the Iraq war and suicide bombings worldwide have changed not only the way we live but the way we look at those around us, especially Muslims. “Islamophobia” has entered the American vernacular, and the anti-Muslim attitudes and prejudice it describes remain common.

But what if you witnessed “Islamophobia” in action and saw someone being victimized because of someone else’s prejudices? What would you do?

Anger Management, Gaza Genocide

The bombardment that ravaged Gaza in January 2009 has provoked much anger and frustration – not just amongst Muslims and Arabic, but broader society also. Over a thousand and three hundred people were killed while thousands others were left homeless and orphaned in this tiny strip of disputed land. In the 21st century, how can the world allow such killing to take place? For weeks, hundreds of thousands have marched on the streets, from […]

On the perfecting of a Prophet

It is one of the articles of faith of Islam to believe in the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. So when anyone casts a shadow on his character, the Muslim world feels deeply antagonized. Yet some remarks are extreme in their negativity and many non-Muslims really question the Prophet of Islam – who is he, and why do Muslims embrace him so completely? When I first came to Islam from Christianity almost […]

What Poets and Novelists Say about Prophet Muhammad

George Bernard Shaw

Since nine centuries in European societies some myths about Prophet Muhammad have been established due to historical conflict between Europe and Islamic world. But many of thinkers, philosophers and scholars have had another opinion, an objective and logical. Poets, novelists and writers were more distinguished to express their views on Muhammad. Emotions or illusions did not plunge them about truth, which they used to discuss and reach it. Lessing, Goethe, Pushkin, Lamartine, Collins, in addition […]

A Just Faith

A Just Faith

Those who enquire about the basics of Islam are usually told about the “Five Pillars” of the religion. These relate to faith and to practice, but at a deeper level it might be said that there are two great pillars which support the whole edifice argues Charles Le Gai Eaton. These are Peace and Justice. The two are clearly connected since there can be no enduring peace without justice. The very word “Islam” comes from […]
